BIOKINETICS AS A PROFESSION

What is Biokinetics?

Biokinetics is the science of movement and the application of exercise modality in the rehabilitative treatment of performance.

 

The primary function of Biokinetics is to make use of exercise as a modality to improve physical functioning, health care, overall well-being and patient education.

 

In Biokinetics we are making use of a scientifically-based exercise programme prescription, concerned with health promotion, to improve physical abilities and for final phase rehabilitation.

What is a Biokineticist?

A Biokineticist is a clinical exercise specialist that functions in a professional alliance with health and medicine and is recognised by and registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

  1. The role of a Biokineticist are listed below:

    • To improve a person’s physical well-being.

    • To improve a person’s quality of life.

    • Rehabilitative treatment by prescribing scientifically based exercise programmes.

    • To prevent/intervene with injuries or chronic diseases.

    • The enhancement and conditioning or sport performances.

    • To evaluate and measures: Body posture, body composition, blood pressure, heart rate, fitness, muscle strength, power, flexibility, mobility, running analysis and other health screenings.

This includes Pilates, orthopaedic rehabilitation and a number of other programmes. We always want the best for our patients, and find the best fit for them.
